Vangi Bath Powder

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp chana dal
  • 2 tbsp urad dal
  • ¼ tsp fenugreek (methi seeds)
  • 1 tbsp dry coconut
  • 6 red chillies or to taste
  • ½ tbsp coriander seeds
  • ½ tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cardamom
  • 1” cinammon stick
  • 1/2 tbsp of oil
Method
  1. Roast all the ingredients untill they turn into light golden brown colour.
  2. Remove from flame and allow it to cool for sometime.
  3. Then grind it to a coarse powder.
  4. Allow it to cool, then store in an air tight container.
  5. Use as required. This will keep fresh for months in an air tight container.

Idly Milagai Podi

Ingredients

  • Red chillies - 50 grams
  • Urad Dal -100 grams
  • Bengal Gram/channa Dal - 100 grams
  • Asafoetida -1/4 tsp
  • White Sesame seeds - 100 grams
  • Salt -1 tbsp salt
  • Oil -1 tsp

Method
  1. Heat 1/2 tsp of oil and roast urad dal and channa dal together till they turn slightly brown.
  2. Heat 1/2 tsp of oil and roast red chillies slightly.
  3. Dry roast sesame seeds. (without oil)
  4. Roast curry leaves.
  5. First grind sesame seed for a few seconds and keep aside .
  6. Then grind the Dal coarsely.
  7. Grind red chillies with salt, dried curry leaves and asafoetida.
  8. Mix everything together and store it in a airtight container.
  9. This podi mixed with sesame seed oil/gingelly oil goes well with idly and dosa.
